Did I mention...
that - yay! - my indigo arrived today?! Woohoo! Now, if I can only find some time to try it out... won't happen this weekend, but perhaps later next week.

Oooooooh. O.O I'm impressed. You have more courage than I do as far as plant dyes go. I'm still falling back on KoolAid. :P
Yeah, I was a bit a intimidated by indigo, until I found instructions for a vat using yeast, warm water and sugar on the earthguild.com site. It's here http://earthguild.com/products/riff/rindigo.htm all the way at the bottom of the page. Doesn't seem too complicated, dangerous or smelly. But we'll see.
I do, but I haven't done anything with it yet. I sort of lost heart after my fiasco with some of the plant dyes... *sigh* maybe sometime during the holidays, I'll recover and get back to it.
Perhaps... But don't loose heart. I thought your colors were nice, even if some of them had to be saved by koolaid. Cochineal looks fairly straight-forward if the instuctions here, http://earthguild.com/products/riff/rcochinel.htm , are to be believed. And I don't think I've ever heard of it giving a color other than something in the red family, like indigo gives blues... I bet you'll do just fine with it!
I'm a graduate of the University of South Florida, currently preparing for graduate school. I graduated in the Fall of 2007 with a BA in Medieval History, minor in Classics. I'm Jewish, an artist, and adopted... Some or all of these topics may be covered here.

Plus, you have that cochineal, don't you? To me, cochineal is brave...
